Celebrate this Week —  Palm Sunday.

This week I celebrate with rejoicing as I remember the Triumphal Entry of Jesus in a story-telling moment, in a music moment, and in a reflective moment. Small moments that are part of my life of faith.

A story-telling moment: Hosanna!

At the beginning of the week, as Jesus and his disciples drew near to Jerusalem, two of Jesus’ disciples followed Jesus’ directions and got him a colt of a donkey, one that had never before been ridden. The disciples spread their coats on the borrowed colt, and Jesus rode him. When the multitude heard that Jesus was coming, they went out to greet him. They lined the dusty road with their garments and with branches cut from the trees. And as Jesus rode through their midst, they cried with a loud voice,

“Hosanna!
 Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! The King of Israel!”
“Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

And when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the city was moved and asked, “Who is this?” The multitudes answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”

Matthew  21, Mark 11, Luke 19, John 12

A music moment: REJOICE, the Lord is King!

Charles Wesley (1701-1788) wrote the text for “Rejoice, the Lord is King!” in 1746 for Hymns on the Great Festivals and Other Occasions, set to tunes by John Frederick Lampe.  Read more…

Rejoice, the Lord is King!
Your Lord and King adore;
mortals, give thanks and sing,
and triumph evermore.
Lift up your heart,
lift up your voice; rejoice;
again I say, rejoice.

Jesus the Savior reigns,
the God of truth and love;
when he had purged our stains,
he took his seat above.
Lift up your heart,
lift up your voice; rejoice,
again I say, rejoice.

His kingdom cannot fail;
he rules o’er earth and heaven;
the keys of earth and hell
are to our Jesus given.
Lift up your heart,
lift up your voice; rejoice,
again I say, rejoice.

Rejoice in glorious hope!
Jesus the Judge shall come,
and take his servants up
to their eternal home.
We soon shall hear
th’archangel’s voice; the trump of God
shall sound, rejoice!
