March Slice of Life No. 1.

It’s already March 1 in EST zone. And since I live in the northwest, three hours behind EST, I take advantage of this to be an “early slicer.”

Tonight I’m sitting in an easy chair, drafting this slice on my laptop. Earlier we had sandwiches with beefsteak tomato slices, red leaf lettuce, cheddar cheese, and smoked ham on rustic bread. And we watched the “Darkest Hour” again.

I am joining the SOLSC for my third year. This year I’ve done a bit of preparation, hoping to maximize my writing during the time that I have scheduled. But I’m not bound to those plans. And I’m sure, I’ll write spontaneously more often than not. Just like I’m doing right now.

I write because I enjoy writing. I write because I like to play with words. I write about my life — that means about family and home, teaching and learning, food and books, and places I go. And I write about my faith.

I start my mornings early with coffee and toast. Some mornings I whip up some cornbread so I can eat it with maple syrup and cream like I did when I was a little girl. I like a cup of tea in the afternoon and sometimes in the evening.

I enjoy cooking and baking. My pies are the best!

I love the sea.

I am granddaughter of immigrants.
I am only daughter of my parents.
I am sister of four brothers.
I am married to the love of my life.
I am mother of two sons and a daughter.
I am grandmother of eighteen grandkids.

And education has been part of my entire life — as student, teacher, administrator, and professional development provider. Literacy is my passion.

I am looking forward to 31 days of writing, reading, and commenting with you.
