SOL25-1125

High we held our umbrellas
as we reached for each other,
wandering through the city
in the springtime of our love.
Raindrops played our sweet love song,
echoing unspoken words,
summoned us to dance ’til dawn
to the rhythm of our hearts.
Raindrops fell like saltless tears,
washed away sad memories,
freed us from our yesteryears,
left no ling’ring scent of pain.
Raindrops drift, white and gentle,
cold and soft beneath our feet.
eve’s gloaming swirls around us,
blurring what the future keeps.
Low we hold our umbrella,
clinging arm in arm we walk,
rambling through our city
in the winter of our love.

Backstory…
It is our story, my guy’s and mine.
I choose “rain” because we live in the rainy northwest.

A lovely testament to a love that even rain does not dampen. I can picture the umbrella moving as years pass by.
What a beautiful love story! I love the rain theme and the shifting of the umbrellas from the beginning held high encompassing 2 beings, to the end held low as you huddled together as one.
I love the “bookend” of your poem, holding umbrellas high with youth, and low later. You create beautiful imagery here, so glad to read this reflection on long love.
Just lovely. Your words and the images share a deep connection happening even as life outside the umbrella goes on at its own pace.
Alice,
I especially like this line:
“eve’s gloaming swirls around us”
And your sweet ending:
“Low we hold our umbrella,
clinging arm in arm we walk,
rambling through our city
in the winter of our love.”
A lovely testament to your enduring love.
This is beautiful. And I love how you echoed the painting with your photo.
Beautiful poem. Catches the essence of intentional love. Nothing flashy, just steady. Thank you for sharing.
What a beautiful depiction of the evolution of a love story.
I love the way the umbrella moved- gorgeous poem!
Alice,
Rain is romantic, as your poem illustrates. Rain invites us to get close, to share a moment, and a poem is a lovely way to tell yours and your guy’s story.
