“Pray without ceasing” 1 Thessalonians 5:17
“This, then, is how you should pray: … Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven… ” Matthew 6:9-10
I want to encourage you to pray without ceasing as you go about the routines of life. When the name of someone pops into your mind, lift that one up immediately in prayer. Don’t know what to pray for that one? Pray God’s will — health and healing; wisdom, joy, peace; safety; meeting of physical needs, which for many are growing each day as they are losing jobs or being furloughed without pay.
Let me share a very personal story.
It was Sunday, March 15, 2020, shortly after midnight. I awoke suddenly and could not go back to sleep and it irritated me a bit. No one was on my mind, so I started praying for my kids. For healing (some of you know the medical battles we have faced the past couple years). For safety, especially for Steve, my son, and Stephy, his daughter, who were in Chile ministering . . . though I knew of no immediate reason they might need such prayer.
I thought I’d go back to sleep but I didn’t. I couldn’t think of more to pray, my words and thoughts jumbled, but still I couldn’t sleep. So I prayed in the spirit, under my breath because I didn’t want to awaken Carl and I didn’t want to get out of my warm bed. There was certainly nothing earth-shaking about my prayer. And remember, I was a bit irritated that I couldn’t sleep. In time, I did dozed off.
When I awoke a couple hours later, I saw a text from Steve on Carl’s phone, letting us know that he had secured flights to return home to Ecuador.
What!?
When I prayed for him, I had had no clue he was trying to do this or that Ecuador was closing its borders. I simply had prayed for safety and for God to direct them and make a way wherever they need one. And then I had prayed in the spirit.
The short of a long story of miracles: Steve said he must have gotten an angel on the phone who worked out their tickets. (That happened around the time I was first awakened.) God’s time is perfect: They arrived Ecuador just before the border closed. They arrived their home town just before roads were sealed as Ecuador went into lock-down. The border lock-down lasted four months.
God works on our behalf… but we must partner with Him to pray His will be done, to speak His will on earth, to speak His will over our lives.
I’m so glad you visited today,
and I do enjoy hearing from you!
