March is National Reading Awareness Month. March is also the month when we change our clocks, springing ahead for Daylight Saving Time. I love early morning daylight hours, and every spring I grumble about moving my clock ahead an hour. I hate losing that hour. So one day, I put my grumblings on paper and in the fashion Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham, I wrote Change the Clock.
Do you like
to change your clock?
I do not like to, Not one bit.
I do not like to change my clock.
Would you like to
now or then?
I would not like to now or then.
I would not like to any time.
I do not like to change my clock.
I do not like it, not one bit.
Would you like to in the sun?
Would you like to for more fun?
I do not like to in the sun.
I do not like to for more fun.
I do not like to now or then.
I do not like to any time.
I do not like to change my clock.
I do not like to, not one bit.
Would you want to ’cause it’s night?
Would you want to for more light?
Not ’cause it’s night. Not for more light.
Not in the sun. Not for more fun.
I would not do it now or then.
I would not do it any time.
I would not change my clock.
I do not like to, not one bit.
Would you? Could you? If I say?
Change it! Change it! Here’s the way.
I would not, could not, if you say.
You may like to. You will see.
You may like to near the sea?
I would not, could not near the sea.
Not if you say! You let me be.
I do not like to ’cause it’s night.
I do not like to for more light.
I do not like to in the sun.
I do not like to for more fun.
I do not like to now or then.
I do not like to any time.
I do not like to change my clock.
I do not like to, not one bit.
It’s spring! It’s spring!
It’s spring! It’s spring!
Could you, would you,
In the spring?
Not in spring! Not near the sea!
Not if you say! Just let me be!
I would not, could not, ’cause it’s night.
I could not, would not, for more light.
I will not do it in the sun.
I will not do it for more fun.
I will not change it now or then.
I will not change it any time.
I do not like to, not one bit.
Hey!
‘Cause it’s dark? Hey, ’cause it’s dark!
Would you, could you, ’cause it’s dark?
I would not, could not, ’cause it’s dark.
Would you, could you, if I sing?
I would not, could not, if you sing.
Not ’cause it’s dark. Not in spring,
Not if you say, Not near the sea.
I do not like to, you will see.
Not in the sun. Not ’cause it’s night.
Not for more fun. Not for more light.
I will not change it now or then.
I do not like it any time!
You do not like to change your clock?
I do not like to, not one bit.
Could you, would you, change it soon?
I would not, could not, change it soon!
Would you, could you, for the moon?
I could not, would not, do it soon.
I will not, will not, for the moon.
I will not change it if you sing.
I will not change it in the spring.
Not ’cause it’s dark! Not near the sea!
Not for a day! You let me be!
I do not like to ’cause it’s night.
I do not like to for more light.
I will not change it in the sun.
I do not like to for more fun.
I do not like to now or then.
I do not like to ANY TIME!
I do not like to change my clock!
I do not like to, not one bit.
You do not like it, SO you say.
Try it! Try it! And you may.
Try it and you may, I say.
Just a bit! If you will let me be,
I will try it. You will see.
Hey!
I will try it, I’ll change my clock!
I will do it just a bit!
And I will change it soon!
And I will do it for the moon…
And I will do if you sing.
And ’cause it’s dark. And in the spring.
For more than a day, near the sea.
And if its good, I may see.
So I will do it ’cause it’s night.
And I will do it for more light.
And I will do it in the sun.
And I will do it for more fun.
And I will do it now and then.
Say! I will do it ANY TIME!
WAIT!
I do NOT like to change my clock!
So stop, please STOP
Such pointless talk!

You’re right!! I love it! Still not used to it and angry that “they” stole my hour!!!
I was surprised as I’ve read the SOL16 posts how many of us really don’t like the changing of time. Sure, we all “get used to it” after a time but why shock our internal clocks like that two times a year.
Alice Nine, thank you for sharing this with me. If you don’t mind, I’d like to share it with my school colleagues tomorrow.
Sure. Honored to have you share it.
This is so awesome! Beautifully done. And yes, I would not like to change my clock!
Thank you, Vilma. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Sounds like we have kindred spirits concerning the time change.
