March 2026 Slice of Life, No. 17
In the tradition of the Irish, I had a delicious lunch of corn beef, boiled potatoes and carrots, and a braised cabbage wedge at the MarKum Inn with my husband.

Corn Beef, Potatoes, Carrots, Cabbage

In the tradition of the Irish, I share two blessings, from me to you.
The first one is a biblical blessing. It is special to me because at my wedding –immediately after my husband and I were introduced as “Mr. and Mrs.”– we paused and our soloist sang these words over us.

The second blessing is a well-known Irish blessing, one I’ve loved since sixth grade. I enjoy Irish blessings — the folklore, the deep faith, and the music of them when they are read.

In the tradition of the Irish, in an earlier SLICE, I share how to write a limerick, and I share the limericks I wrote.

Thank you for sharing your celebrations! Reading your post was the most celebrating I did, and you made it feel like something.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Your food pic looks amazing, and I really enjoyed the blessings, especially when you describe how one was incorporated in your wedding ceremony. Today is my mom’s birthday and also the birthday of a close friend. I bought my friend a little shamrock plant!
The dinner was as good as it looks! I was not familiar with the shamrock plant…. but I looked it up and it’s a lovely plant. Your friend is lucky.
So nice that you celebrated in a traditional way today. I love both of these blessings and the face that the first one was sung to both of you. Enjoy the rest of the day!
Thank you. So glad you came by today.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you as well. Thank you for the blessings and may I offer another to you:
May your blessings outnumber
The Shamrocks that grow
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go
Love this, Arjeha!
Thank you for that wonderful Irish blessing.
What a great way to celebrate St. Patrick’s day! I appreciate the blessings. It reminds me of Thomas Cahill’s book “How the Irish Saved Civilization.”
I’m not familiar with Thomas Cahill’s book… I just looked it up and I think I need to get a copy. My husband has talked about this time in history and the contributions of the Irish. (He is a historian and biblical scholar.) Thank you for sharing the book.
Two beautiful blessings to read early on this St. Patrick’s Day. And what a yummy lunch! My corned beef is cooked and ready to eat tonight for dinner! I can’t wait!
It was a good as it looks! I bet yours is delicious!
I love your slice of St. Patrick’s Day! Especially the story of the blessing at your wedding!
Thank you. So glad you came by.
