Today…
I sat at my desk wond’ring
What happened to spring?
Winter claimed a late fling
And…
Just when I thought spring
had arrived, with a bling
summer came on its wing

Cherry Blossoms April 22, 2018

 

I have been delighting in our blossoming cherry trees this past week. Like everything, they are a bit late and perhaps I’ve enjoyed them even more because of that. That made me think of a poem . . .Ā 

 

Loveliest of Trees

 

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.

 

Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.

 

And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.
