March 2026 Slice of Life No. 15
Happy Sunday! I trust your day is blessed. I trust it overflows with love.
I ask, when a heart brims with love for a son or daughter, what words can express such love? What actions can demonstrate such love?
Through the years, on cards and notes, I’ve penned the words “With all our love” to our children, to their spouses, to their children and spouses, and to their children’s children. I realize even more that there are no words nor actions to convey such deep, deep feelings– feelings rooted in the flow of our lives to theirs and theirs back to us, because they came from us and we are part of them in ways our minds cannot comprehend, but our hearts know.
It is a love that explodes the heart with great joy even when it clutches the heart with sadness and sorrow. It is a love that embraces the future even as it clings to the past. It is a love that reaches out to pull close and then opens its hands to release. It is a love that is filled with hope and faith. It is a love that dreams what seems impossible. And sometimes, it is a love that weeps in silence, forever yearning.
And as I write, I think of the love of my Father in Heaven for me… and my eyes become a river of tears. I do not fathom my love for my children… and oh, how much less do I fathom His love for me, His child! “For God so loved…”

Such a powerful slice and I agree with how hard it is to express our love for those dearest to us with finite words and actions.
Thank you. It’s the memory of simple expressions of love from my son that has comforted me during my grief at his passing.
Beautiful, sacred reflection on the power of love!
Alice,
I grew up in church and graduated from a Southern Baptist University, so I know the bible pretty well. It breaks my heart to see how God’s love is being weaponized by the Christian nationalists. It’s Christ’s teachings of love and acceptance that have sustained me in loving my own children when they’ve taken a “prodigal son” path. My youngest and I talked about this love several times this past weekend. Anyway, your post today touches my heart.
What a perfect slice for a Sunday, well, for any day. If we all held that great love in our hearts not just for our family but for everyone, what a changed world we would live in.
Yes… Your comment made me think of the verse in 1 Peter 4:8: Love covers a multitude of sins. That’s a redeeming love.
What a beautiful slice. It is drawn deep from within and has so much meaning. The love we have for our children is inexplicable. I know that is the same way the love of God for us is and even more. All your explanation means so much, but this stands out, ” It is a love that is filled with hope and faith.”
Thank you. Have a beautiful day!
Beautiful slice to wake up to, Alice. “Flow of our lives to them and theirs back to us” That is one true line. Thanks so much for sharing g and leaving me full of appreciation for all the love that flows in my life.
Thank you, Dawn. We who are loved fiercely are truly blessed.
