Poetry Friday 26-0424
#NPM 26
Happy National Poetry Month!
I am celebrating Poetry Month by pairing quotes about poetry (Poetry is…) with images.
I share one each day without commentary. Below are those from April 18 to April 24.
But first, I will share a poem I wrote a few months ago.
My poem, “In the Rain,” pairs with Jane Whittingham’s quote that I posted on April 18.

In the Rain
High we hold our umbrellas
as we reach for each other,
wandering through the city
in the springtime of our love.
Raindrops play our sweet love song,
echoing unspoken words,
summoning us to dance ’til dawn
to the rhythm of our hearts.
Raindrops fall like saltless tears,
wash away sad memories,
free us from our yesteryears,
leave no ling’ring scent of pain.
Raindrops drift, white and gentle,
cold and soft beneath our feet.
eve’s gloaming swirls around us,
blurring what the future keeps.
Low we hold our umbrella,
clinging arm in arm we walk,
rambling through our city
in the winter of our love.

Alice, lovely, as usual. “Poetry is like a bird, it ignores all frontiers.” by Yevgeny Yevtushenko. I love the idea of walking in the winter of your love. So beautiful.
Thank you. My teenage grandkids and I were talking about metaphors during our English class and I used the seasons for our age. I told them I was in the winter of life and they all immediately said, “No. You are in the fall because fall has all the brilliant colors like you.” Well, that made my day even though I really am in the winter.
Such fun quotes!
Thank you! They’ve been fun to curate.
Alice, I love the idea of the poem as an umbrella and your line “we reach for each other.” Isn’t that what our poems are doing, reaching out for another? Thank you!
Thank you Patricia. You comment is beautiful.
Jane’s quote is perfection!
I’m so curious about the painting you paired with her quote — who’s the artist? I’m wondering about the first artist too. Both paintings are so lovely!
Thank you. Both illustrations are from Pixabay. All of the illustrations I use are either ones I’ve created or from Pixabay. The artist is usually cloaked under a user account name. For example, the one I paired with Jane’s quote has the attribution to “Source: Image by Beautiful-Moments from Pixabay.”
Tate’s quote made me smile. Enjoyed all the quotes this week, Alice — so inspirational. Enjoyed your umbrella poem too — romantic and cleansing. Love renews, washes away loneliness.
I love Jane’s quote! This has been such a great series, Alice. Thank you!
