March 2026 Slice of Life, No. 6
From a free writing in my summer journal
Tonight I’ve taken pleasure in simple things.
- Eating an enormous piece of pizza
- Chatting with my son as he grilled 24 cheeseburgers for his kids, cousins, and friends
- Hearing the shouts and laughter of my grandkids as they played away the final hours of daylight
- Enjoying a cool evening breeze coming in our back screen door
- Sipping a tall glass of ice water with a lime slice
- Listening to the familiar soft humming of a floor fan
- Marking time with the steady tick of our old kitchen clock
And then my husband, walking into the kitchen, said: “I love you.”

Serenity
Life is good
My heart is full
My mind at peace
My body’s well
Tonight
Sleep will be sweet
Thank you, Lord!

Simple pleasures are the best.
Yes they are!
This is so beautiful and I enjoyed how you added, not just sights, but sounds. Of course, the ending topped it off perfectly. Isn’t it great when life hands us “lemonade.”
Thanks. I like “lemonade.”
Simple living truly is the absolute best, and you have appealed to all the senses here in your list of good living. That tall glass of ice water with the lime is going to call me until I find a lime and slice it! Sweet dreams!
It’s Saturday morning, and I wrote this slice on Friday evening… And my sleep was sweet last night. Thanks.
I can easily imagine your beautiful day from these brief but descriptive bullets you list, and feel your happiness as your day comes to a close with your poem. Sounds like a day to cherish!
I’m so glad it doesn’t take big things to make happiness.
This sounds like perfection. I can hear the contentment and peace in your slice. 🙂
I’m so thankful there is “perfection” in our crazy lives…If we let it, it floats to the surface of all the craziness in life. We just need to let it all settle to see and hear perfect moments.
