Celebrate this Week : January 28, 2017

This week I celebrate

24 hours in each day,
7 days in each week,
4 plus weeks in each month,
12 months in each year . . .
the rising and setting of the sun,
the lengthening and shortening of shadows,
the changing of seasons.

It is a celebration every time I date a new journal entry.

Somewhere in the midst of the deep snow
that followed the ice storm
that came right after New Years
that caused my flight to be canceled
and my trip postponed for three days
which put two work trips back to back.

In the midst of the winter storms
that canceled our Sunday services two weeks in a row,
that gave us days of nasty streets curbing my shopping,
and sent cold winds that made me shiver in my house.

In the midst of the crud that lingered and lingered.

Somewhere in the midst of all that, I not only lost track of my days, I lost track of my weeks. Early this week, as I headed home, crossing the country for the fourth time (two round trips) this month, I found myself consciously pausing in thought to identify which day of the week it really was. I puzzled, Why does it feel like Saturday? or maybe Thursday? when it’s really just Tuesday? I wondered, Can I trust my bullet journal? Even it seems askew.

Perhaps it was all the schedule changes,
perhaps it was the bout with the crud,
perhaps it was trying to remember to write 2017 when I dated papers,
perhaps …
perhaps …
Wait! Is there a vertigo of time?

The snow and ice have melted into our thirsty ground. Yesterday, the skies were blue and the sun was warm. Tomorrow I will attend Sunday morning worship service. Only an occasional sneeze lingers from the crud. And as I let my thoughts flow to paper, with a cup of steamy, creamy coffee beside me, with the aroma of bacon and eggs filling my kitchen, I know it is Saturday. It even feels like Saturday!

REJOICE : #OLW17

I rejoice because I know–
God said,
Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night;
and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years
. . .
While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat,
and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Genesis 1:14, 8:22
