How We Write

Teaching the writing process with a one-sentence composition.

Workshop Summary

During this workshop, you will learn how to teach the writing process and the academic vocabulary of writing in six anchor lessons that include modeling, guided practice, and anchor charts. Alice will show you how students can work with a one-sentence composition to 
 1) Plan a first draft
 2) Develop the draft
 3) Revise the draft 
 4) Edit the draft 
 5) Publish.

How We Write anchor lessons develop the foundation for writing instruction and set up classroom procedures as they easily blend 
into any writing program at any grade level.

Alignment with new ELAR TEKS

Strand 6 – The student learns about the writing process and learns how to use it. The student applies knowledge of conventions to edit. The student uses legible handwriting.
Strand 1 – The student learns and uses the academic vocabulary of writing.
Strand 7 – The student uses inquiry and research during prewriting.

This workshop is offered on two dates:  April 24 and June 12, 2019
Activities in April are designed with a focus kindergarten through second grade.
Activities in June are designed with a focus on grades 3 and above.

How We Write is a Growing Strong Writers workshop.
Growing Strong Writers Workshop Series with Alice Nine is attentive to the importance of daily writing practice, the complex demands of learning English, and a desire to cultivate a love for writing

These workshops offer super simple, no nonsense, can-use-it-tomorrow routines and strategies. Workshops are interactive with teachers doing the work of a student to step-by-step experience the routines themselves. to examine routine procedures and management, and to clarify, connect, and expand personal knowledge. Alice also shares practical ideas for adapting routines to meet diverse student needs and the demands of writing across core curriculum.
